Did you know Senegal has a naturally pink lake? Lake Retba — Lac Rose — gets its bubblegum color from a salt-loving microorganism, Dunaliella salina, thriving in water saltier than the Dead Sea. Local harvesters wade in coated in shea butter to protect their skin while collecting salt by hand.
