Overview

The United States requires most foreign nationals to obtain a visa before entering the country. The type of visa you need depends on the purpose of your visit.

Tourist Visa (B-2)

The B-2 visa is for tourism, vacation, visiting friends or relatives, medical treatment, and participation in social events. It typically allows stays of up to 6 months.

Requirements

  • Valid passport (at least 6 months validity beyond your stay)
  • Completed DS-160 form
  • Visa application fee ($185)
  • Photo meeting specifications
  • Proof of ties to your home country
  • Financial means to cover your stay

Visa Waiver Program (VWP)

Citizens of 40 countries can visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa through the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). Countries include the UK, Japan, Australia, and most EU nations.

Business Visa (B-1)

For attending business meetings, conferences, or negotiating contracts. Does not permit employment in the US.

Processing Time: Allow 3-5 weeks for standard processing. During peak seasons, it may take longer.
